Jonathan is one of three children in his family, and his wife Kate is one of five. They met on October 5, 1997, and got married on June 12, 1999. They soon faced difficulties in conceiving due to medical reasons. After Kate underwent medical examinations, it was discovered that she had polycystic ovary syndrome. Determined to have children, the couple sought medical intervention and underwent artificial insemination. In February 2000, Kate became pregnant with twins.

He was seen leaving a prolonged party with a woman. The family denied these allegations, claiming that the woman was an old family friend. However, the brother of the woman involved, Dina Hamel, asserted that she did indeed have a romantic relationship with the father of multiple children. There is even video evidence supporting this claim. The fifth season of the show was expected to address this controversy. In the premiere episode on May 25, 2009, the family explained that the issue had been resolved, and the focus would be on raising their children.
