Early Career
Jack Firtsman, a multifaceted artist, gained recognition through his short films, such as "Call Your Father" (2016), nominated at Sundance, and "Men Don't Whisper" (2017). His witty impersonations shared on Instagram Live during the COVID-19 pandemic propelled him to fame. As an openly gay individual, Firtsman's work often explores the LGBTQ+ experience.
Breakthrough with "Call Your Father"
In 2016, Firtsman wrote and starred in the satirical short film "Call Your Father," examining the dynamics between gay couples of different generations. Concurrently, he contributed to the television series "Search Party."
Collaboration on "Men Don't Whisper"
The following year, Firtsman and co-writer Charles Rogers produced the comedic short "Men Don't Whisper." It depicts a jaded gay couple attempting to revitalize their masculinity by pursuing women. Sundance and South by Southwest film festivals screened the film, which also received the Vimeo Staff Pick Premiere distinction.
Pandemic Impersonations
In early 2020, Firtsman penned a tribute performed by the Los Angeles Gay Men's Chorus, acknowledging queer representation in cinema and honoring Laura Dern at the 2020 Independent Spirit Awards. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Firtsman began posting highly acclaimed impression videos on Instagram, such as "city gossip who ran out of gossip in quarantine," "summer 2020," "banana bread publicist," and "all of the clothes people aren't wearing right now." Celebrities like Ariana Grande, Katy Perry, and Chrissy Teigen praised his comedic portrayals.
Commentating with Grace Mahary
For Tom Brown's SS2021 show, set during the imagined 2132 Olympic Games on the moon, Firtsman narrated alongside model Grace Mahary. Models showcased their designs within the art deco-styled Los Angeles Coliseum, the venue for the 1932 Olympics.
Marvel and Beyond
In 2022, Firtsman joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe by appearing in the Disney+ series "Ms. Marvel." His versatile career continues to showcase his creativity and talent.
