Early Life and Career
Jordan James Gavaris was born on September 25, 1989, in Brampton, Ontario, Canada to a Greek immigrant father and a Canadian mother. Raised near Toronto, he attended an arts high school with two older sisters. Feeling like an outsider because of his Greek heritage, he grew up shy and reserved. It was only in university that he overcame his shyness and became more comfortable.
In 2008, Gavaris made his acting debut in the independent film "45 RPM," starring opposite Michael Madsen. Subsequently, he appeared in two popular TV series: "Degrassi: The Next Generation" and "Unnatural History."
Breakthrough with "Orphan Black" and "Curse of Chucky"
2013 was a pivotal year for Gavaris, as he landed the role of Felix Dawkins in the science fiction series "Orphan Black" and appeared in the horror film "Curse of Chucky." The former, a critical and commercial success, earned him a Gemini Award and a Canadian Screen Award.
"Curse of Chucky," while less successful than the spin-off film "Annabelle," was well-received by audiences and marked Gavaris' first major horror role.
Filmography
Following his breakout, Gavaris worked with Gus Van Sant in "The Sea of Trees" (2015), appeared in the arthouse film "Endangered Species" (2016), and had a recurring role in the comedy series "Take Two" (2018-2019). He also starred in "The Coop" and "Love in the Time of Corona."
Personal Life
Gavaris publicly came out as gay in 2017. He has been in a relationship with actor and writer Devon Graye since 2013. They met on Twitter and share their ups and downs with fans through Gavaris' active social media presence.
Recent Projects
In 2022, Gavaris participated in the podcast series "Orphan Black: The Next Chapter," reprising his role as Felix Dawkins. He also starred in the comedy film "The Lake."
