Biography of Jordana Brewster
Born on April 26, 1980, actress Jordana Brewster grew up in a family of a banker, Alden Brewster, and a professional model, Maria João, in Panama City. However, she spent her first six years in England before her family moved to her mother's home country, Brazil. It was in the capital city of Rio de Janeiro that Jordana learned to speak Portuguese fluently and caught the attention of Brazilian viewers by performing as a dancer on a popular children's show.
At the age of 10, Jordana and her family relocated to Manhattan, New York. She attended a Catholic all-girls school and a professional children's school. During her education, she participated in several school productions, even playing the role of Jesus Christ in one of them. She also once filled in for a child actor in an episode of the TV series "All My Children". Shortly after, she landed a role in the series "As the World Turns", which served as a launching pad for many young actors. Jordana herself described her experience on the show, saying, "When I signed on for 'As the World Turns' [for 3 years at the age of 15], I promised my mom I wouldn't let it corrupt me, and I promised my dad I would go to college. The acting profession kept me out of trouble. I had to be at CBS at 7 a.m., so I didn't have time for nonsense."
In 1996, Jordana received an offer to appear in the science fiction action film "Independence Day", but she was unable to accept it due to her contract with CBS. However, not long after, she caught the attention of director Robert Rodriguez, who cast her as Delilah Profitt, the leader of a cheerleader squad and the editor-in-chief of the school newspaper, in his new teen science fiction film "The Faculty". As part of the film's promotion, Brewster appeared in a special MTV episode called "Invasion of the Scary Movies", and the well-known clothing company "Tommy Hilfiger" used the film's cast in their advertising campaigns.
Following the release of "The Faculty", Jordana was offered a role in the miniseries "The '60s". While attending Yale University (where her grandfather, Kingman Brewster, served as president from 1963 to 1977), she found time to film the adaptation of the book "Invisible Circus", in which she starred alongside Cameron Diaz and Christopher Eccleston. Some of the disciplines she studied at university included film history, sociology, English, and electrical engineering.
During her second year of college, she portrayed Mia Toretto, a beautiful waitress and the sister of the leader of a gang of street racers, in the adventure film "The Fast and the Furious". This role helped her secure a place among the young promising actresses of Hollywood. She graduated from university in 2003.
After taking a break from acting for a few years to focus on her education, Jordana returned to the screen as Lucy Diamond in the adventure film "D.E.B.S." (2004). This was followed by leading roles in films such as "Annapolis", "Chasing Fate", and "Nearing Grace".
In 2006, she appeared in the horror film "The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning", portraying one of the victims of the maniac known as Leatherface. From December 1999, Jordana dated actor Mark Wahlberg, and the duration of their relationship sparked rumors of a possible marriage.
