Anders Årch Jr.
Anders Årch Jr. is a renowned Swedish artist who has played a significant role in the art world. His works encompass a range of disciplines, including painting and etching.
Education and Career
Born in Stockholm, Sweden, Årch Jr. pursued his studies in ethnography and art history at Stockholm University before enrolling at the Royal Swedish Academy of Fine Arts. He graduated in 1980 and subsequently taught at the Academy until 1993. During the final three years of his tenure, he concurrently held a position as a visiting professor at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.
Artistic Practice
Årch Jr.'s artistic practice is known for its engagement with classical works. This is evident in his "Goya" series, which consists of 80 engravings inspired by Francisco Goya's "Caprichos." Another notable body of work is his "The Red Serpent," a series of 105 lithographs based on Frans Bengtsson's novel of the same name.
Influence and Legacy
According to art historian Thomas Chelgreen, Årch Jr. has made significant contributions to the understanding of graphic art. He co-authored the book "What is Printmaking?" (1996) and collaborated on "Zorn in Black and White" (2002), which examines the graphic works of renowned artist Anders Zorn.
