Early Life and Education

Jorge Sampaoli, an Argentine football manager, was born into a family with a strong military background. His father, a Brigadier General in the Argentine Army, inspired Sampaoli to pursue a career in physical education. In 2002, Sampaoli graduated with a degree in physical education from the Institute of Brigadier General Estanislao López in Santa Fe, Argentina.

Coaching Career in Peru

Sampaoli's coaching career began in Peru in 2002. After seven years of coaching various clubs, he led Coronel Bolognesi to their first international tournament, the South American Cup, in 2004. In 2007, he moved to Sporting Cristal, one of Peru's most successful clubs.

Success in Chile and Ecuador

Sampaoli's reputation soared after he took charge of Universidad de Chile in 2011. He guided the team to three consecutive league titles (Apertura and Clausura 2011 and Apertura 2012) and the Copa Sudamericana in 2011. In 2010, he had led Ecuadorian club Emelec to a second-place finish in the league.

Manager of the Chilean National Team

In 2012, Sampaoli became the coach of the Chilean national team. He led them to the round of 16 at the 2014 FIFA World Cup and to victory in the 2015 Copa América, Chile's first major international trophy. Sampaoli resigned in 2016.

Sevilla and the Argentine National Team

After his success with Chile, Sampaoli moved to Europe and joined Sevilla in 2016. He led the Spanish club to a fourth-place finish in La Liga and a Champions League knockout berth. However, he left Sevilla after only one season to become the manager of the Argentine national team.

Tactical Innovations and Philosophy

Sampaoli is known for his revolutionary tactical approach. His teams typically employ a diamond-shaped midfield, three forwards, and only three defenders to create a dynamic and offense-minded style of play. Sampaoli is also a strong advocate for the use of technology in training and player analysis.

Recognition and Awards

Throughout his managerial career, Sampaoli has received numerous accolades, including:

Best Coach in Chile (El Gráfico Chile and ANFP): 2011

South American Coach of the Year: 2015
