Jos Janssen: The Longevous Motorist

Joes Janssen, born in 1910, is one of the oldest individuals in the Netherlands known for his remarkable ability to drive at an advanced age. His journey behind the wheel began in 1928, when he obtained his driving license at the age of eighteen.

An 82-Year Driving Milestone

By the summer of 2010, Janssen had accumulated an astounding 82 years of driving experience. To commemorate this milestone, the Dutch pensioner decided to indulge in a new car, choosing the comfort of a Hyundai. To maintain his driving privileges, Janssen underwent a mandatory medical examination. Impressively, the doctors attested to his exceptional health, extending his license for an additional five years.

Early Driving Days and Travel Adventures

Janssen fondly recalls his early driving days. The driving test in 1928 was a breeze, with Janssen barely driving halfway down the street before receiving his license from the examiner. As a young man, he combined his passion for cars with his love of travel, clocking up to 80,000 km annually on his road trips.

Mature Driving Habits and Current Routine

Over time, Janssen's driving style has evolved. Today, he approaches the road with greater caution, driving more slowly and deliberately. While he still gets behind the wheel daily, his primary use of the car is for errands, medical appointments, and visiting his children. His new Hyundai's annual mileage now hovers around 7,000 km.

A Pet Peeve Persists

Despite his advanced age, Janssen remains a keen observer of traffic patterns. His patience is tested by leisurely drivers who hesitate at green lights, a pet peeve that has endured throughout his decades of driving.
