Born in Brazil, Nelson Freire's musical journey began at an early age. His mother, a university music professor, served as his first piano teacher. By the tender age of nine, he had already emerged victorious in his first competition.
Freire received his musical education in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, and New York, where he studied under the tutelage of esteemed pianist Adele Marcus. He later furthered his studies in Paris.
