Andres Guardado: A Mexican Footballing Legend
Early Career and DebutBorn on September 28, 1986, Andres Guardado is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for Spanish club Real Betis. He began his career with Atlas, making his debut in August 2005 at the age of 18. Within two seasons, he became a regular starter, appearing in 64 matches and scoring six goals.
Transfer to Europe
In the summer of 2007, Guardado attracted interest from several European clubs. Deportivo La Coruña offered €5.25 million for 75% of his rights, and the deal was finalized on July 7. Guardado expressed his excitement about the move, citing the lack of a language or cultural barrier.
Success at Deportivo and Valencia
At Deportivo, Guardado became a key player, despite missing the final two months of the season due to injury. He returned for the Intertoto Cup matches. In 2012, he joined Valencia as a free agent, signing a four-year contract. Two years later, he moved to PSV Eindhoven on loan.
Arrival at Real Betis
On July 7, 2017, Guardado transferred from PSV to Real Betis. The three-year agreement kept him with the club until 2020.
International Career
Guardado earned his first cap for the Mexican national team on December 14, 2005. He was selected for the 2006 FIFA World Cup by coach Ricardo La Volpe. After La Volpe's departure, his successor, Hugo Sanchez, retained Guardado in the squad.
On February 28, 2007, Guardado scored his first goal for Mexico in a friendly against Venezuela.
