José de Iglesias was a Spanish poet born in Salamanca, Spain. As a student at the University of Salamanca, he cofounded the "Salamanca School" alongside his friend Meléndez and other young writers.
Literary Career
After graduating from university, Iglesias became a parish priest. His early literary works were characterized by satire and graceful verses, influenced by the style of Spanish writer Francisco de Quevedo. Iglesias' "letrillas" (light-hearted lyrical compositions) achieved significant success.
