Early Career and Debut for DanubioJosé María Giménez, a prodigious Uruguayan defender, emerged onto the football scene with his debut for Club Atlético Danubio on November 17, 2012. He showcased his exceptional skills in sixteen appearances for the "Danubianos" in the Uruguayan championship.
Transfer to Atlético Madrid and La Liga Debut
In April 2013, Atlético Madrid struck a deal with Danubio to acquire the 18-year-old Giménez for a fee of €1 million. He joined his new club at the commencement of the 2013/14 season and made his La Liga debut against UD Almería on September 14.
First Goal and International Breakthrough
Giménez's first goal for Atlético came on December 6, 2014, in a match against Elche CF. Simultaneously, he earned his international debut for the Uruguayan national team in September 2013 against Colombia. He continued to represent his country, making three further appearances.
FIFA World Cup and Award Recognition
Despite a lack of regular playing time at Atlético, Giménez was included in Uruguay's 2014 FIFA World Cup squad due to his impressive performances. He played a pivotal role in the team's run to the Round of 16, where they faced elimination against Colombia.
