Biography of Jose Rizal
Jose Rizal, the national hero of the Philippines, was born in the Philippines and received his early education there. He then studied medicine at the University of Madrid, where he was one of the top students. Rizal's political views regarding the possibility of liberating his homeland from Spanish colonizers were formed during his studies and residency in Europe between 1882 and 1892. During this time, he published several works and articles dedicated to Spanish colonialism.
The Formation of the Philippine League
After returning to the Philippines in 1892, Rizal founded the first national political organization called the "Philippine League." As a result, he was arrested and exiled to one of the remote Philippine islands. During the outbreak of the liberation revolution in 1896, Rizal maintained close communication with the leaders of the rebels. Shortly after, he was arrested and executed by the sentence of a Spanish military court.
