José Wilker (August 20, 1944 – April 5, 2014) was a renowned Brazilian actor, director, producer, and journalist.
Early Life and Education
Wilker was born in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, Brazil. From a young age, he developed a passion for literature, particularly cinema, and aspired to become a screenwriter.
Acting and Television Career
Wilker made his screen debut in 1965 in a minor role in the film "A Folecida." He went on to write extensively for theater and participate in stage productions. Beginning in 1971, Wilker became a regular presence in telenovelas and became one of the most beloved actors of his generation.
Among his most memorable roles for international audiences were Marcelo Rossi in "Nova Vítima" and Valdomiro Serqueira in "O Veneno da Madrugada." He also gained immense popularity in his home country and abroad as the titular character in the telenovela "Rocky Saint" (1985).
Writing and Journalism
In addition to his acting career, Wilker wrote a column, "Brazilian Periodical," in the magazine "Cultural" and contributed to "Chiques e Famosos."
Personal Life
Wilker was married three times, all to actresses. His first wife was Renée de Vilmond, followed by Mônica Torres. Both marriages ended in divorce. His third and final wife was Guilhermina Guinle. Wilker had two daughters.
