Academic Career
Ludvík Václav Grobak was a Czech literary scholar who spent most of his life affiliated with Masaryk University in Brno. He earned his doctorate there in 1937 and remained as a professor from 1945 to 1978. From 1953 to 1970, he directed the Department of Czech Literature and served as the Dean of the Faculty of Arts from 1954 to 1960.
Research Interests
Grobak's research primarily encompassed Czech literary history, comparative literature, and versification. Notable publications include his monographs "Towards a Methodology for Studying Old Czech Literature" (1962) and "On the Character of Czech Verse" (1970).
Academic Affiliations
In 1937, Grobak became a member of the Prague Linguistic Circle. He was recognized as a corresponding member of the Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences in 1965.
Education
Grobak completed his studies at Masaryk University in 1935, specializing in Czech and French literature. He successfully defended his doctoral dissertation in 1937.
