Early Life and EducationHenry Brinkman, an American pianist and music educator, was a protégé of the renowned Arthur Schnabel. Their close association lasted for many years, culminating in Schnabel's participation in Brinkman's invitation to the Ann Arbor Music Festival in 1940. For the subsequent three seasons, Schnabel successfully conducted summer schools there.
Teaching Career
Brinkman held the position of Chair of Piano at the University of Michigan's music department for several years. Among his notable students was Maurice Hinson, who dedicated his book "The Pianist's Guide to Repertoire" to the memory of his teachers, Brinkman and Olga Samaroff.
Performance Career
Brinkman's musical contributions extended beyond teaching. He performed alongside cellist George Mikhel, earning praise for his contributions to their joint concerts from the reviewer of the "New York Times."
Honors and Recognition
Walter Piston's Piano Quintet (1949) was dedicated to Henry Brinkman. The work was premiered that same year by Brinkman and the Stanley Quartet.
