At the age of nine, Josh started performing his first stand-up comedy sketches and later began studying acting at Stagedoor Manor Performing Arts Center in New York and the School for the Arts in Baltimore.

Josh Charles made his film debut in 1988 in the popular musical comedy "Hairspray" directed by John Waters.
