Biography of Joshua Bolten
Joshua Brewster Bolten was born on August 16, 1954, the son of a CIA agent. He attended Princeton University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Humanities in 1976, and Stanford Law School, where he received his Juris Doctor degree in 1980.
After completing his education, Bolten taught at Yale University and worked as a trade advisor in the Senate Finance Committee of the U.S. Congress from 1985 to 1989. He served as the Chief Legal Counsel to the U.S. Representative in trade negotiations during the administration of George H.W. Bush. From March 1999 to November 2000, Bolten was the Political Director of Bush-Cheney presidential campaign. He then served as an Assistant to President Bush and Deputy Chief of Staff in the White House from 2001 to 2003.
In 2006, President George W. Bush announced the resignation of his trusted advisor, White House Staff Secretary Andrew Card, and appointed Joshua Bolten as his replacement. President Bush described Bolten as a highly valuable employee with extensive experience in Washington.
The Wit and Love for Harley-Davidson Motorcycles
Aside from his political career, Joshua Bolten is known for his sharp sense of humor and his love for Harley-Davidson motorcycles. He is also a member of the White House rock band, where he plays the bass guitar. Bolten is currently single.
