Biography of Josip Skoblar
Josip Skoblar, a Croatian football player, was born on March 11, 1941, in Zadar. He began his football career at the age of 13, playing for the club "Zadar". In his early years, Skoblar showed great talent and quickly became a key player for his team. He later joined the OFK Belgrade club, where he played from 1959 to 1967, scoring 63 goals in 162 matches.
Skoblar's success on the field caught the attention of clubs outside of Yugoslavia, and he was loaned to the Marseille club in France for the 1966/67 season. He impressed with his goal-scoring ability, and Marseille decided to sign him permanently. Skoblar went on to play for Marseille from 1969 to 1974, scoring an impressive 151 goals in 175 matches.
During his career, Skoblar also had stints with Hannover 96 in Germany and NK Rijeka in Croatia. In total, he played 430 matches and scored 255 goals in the first division. He also represented the national team of Yugoslavia, playing 32 matches and scoring 11 goals.
Skoblar's achievements include winning the French championship in 1971 and 1972, as well as the French Cup in 1972. He was also named the best football player of Croatia in the 20th century. Skoblar won the Golden Boot as the top scorer in Europe in 1971 and was the leading scorer in the French championship for three consecutive years (1971, 1972, and 1973).
After retiring as a player, Skoblar worked as a coach in various countries, including Yugoslavia, Croatia, Germany, and France. He currently serves as a technical consultant for Marseille, where he analyzes opponents' games and helps with player recruitment.
Josip Skoblar's legacy as a football player is celebrated in Croatia and beyond.
