Juan Bautista Villalba: A Legendary Paraguayan Striker

Early Life and Career

Juan Bautista Villalba was born in General Aquino, Paraguay. His love for football became evident at a young age, and he began his career with the local club General Aquino in 1940. In 1942, he moved to Sportivo Luqueño, where he spent six seasons.

International Debut and Copa América Triumphs

During his time with Luqueño, Villalba made his debut for the Paraguayan national team. He represented his country at the 1945 and 1947 Copa América, showcasing his exceptional skills and scoring 9 goals in 12 matches combined.

International Transfer and Club Career

After the 1947 Copa América, Villalba moved to Argentina, joining Huracán. He also played for Boca Juniors de Cali in Colombia before returning to Paraguay to finish his career with Olimpia. Unfortunately, an injury cut his professional career short.

Personal Life

Juan Bautista Villalba married Francisca Ovelar, and the couple had six children: Pomposa de Mesa, Marta Amelia de Salas, Juan Bautista Jr., Julia, Graciela, and Mariela. He became a grandfather to 14 grandchildren.
