Early Life and Construction Work
Argentine footballer and current midfielder for Mallorca, Pablo Daniel Piatti, embarked on a unique journey before his professional football career. As a teenager, Piatti worked diligently in construction until the age of 19.
Footballing Beginnings in Argentina
After leaving the construction industry, Piatti pursued his passion for football, starting out in modest lower-division teams. He later found himself playing for two Primera División clubs in Avellaneda, but failed to secure a regular spot in the starting lineup over three seasons.
Breakthrough with CFR Cluj
In 2007, Piatti made his mark at Chilean club Deportes La Serena, attracting the attention of Romanian giants CFR Cluj. The club paid a transfer fee of €600,000 to acquire his services. On August 1, 2007, Piatti made his debut for CFR Cluj and quickly became an integral part of the starting lineup.
European Success and Recognition
Piatti's crowning moment came on September 16, 2008, when he scored two goals in the opening match of the Champions League group stage against Roma. His performance earned him the Man of the Match award and brought him into the spotlight.
Transfer Rumours and Failed Deals
In December 2008, Russian club Rubin Kazan expressed interest in Piatti, but a potential deal fell through due to the player's high transfer value. Porto also showed interest in June of the same year.
Move to Turkey
In December 2010, Russian club Kuban Krasnodar made an attempt to sign Piatti, but financial negotiations proved fruitless. On January 6, 2011, Piatti finally secured a transfer to Turkish powerhouse Galatasaray, signing a contract until 2014. The deal was valued at €2 million.
