Early Life and Education

Juan Orlando Hernández earned his law degree from the National Autonomous University of Honduras and later graduated from the State University of New York in 1995.

Political Career

National Congress

At the age of 29, Hernández was elected to the National Congress. In 2010, he became the president of the congress.

Presidency

In 2013, Hernández was elected president of Honduras, earning 36% of the vote. In 2017, he was re-elected after the Supreme Electoral Tribunal ruled that he could run for a second term and allowed him to change the constitution, which had previously prohibited presidents from seeking re-election. He narrowly defeated leftist candidate Salvador Nasralla by 1.5%, sparking social unrest.
