Early Life and Education
In 1928, Ramón Ernesto Cruz graduated from the Faculty of Law at the National Autonomous University (UNAH) in Tegucigalpa.
Legal Career
Cruz practiced law after graduating, working as a notary public in 1931 and then in the court of the Francisco Morazán department until 1943.
Academic Pursuits
From 1932 to 1938, Cruz taught international private law at UNAH. From 1938 to 1949, he教授political sociology and constitutional law.
Diplomatic Roles
Cruz served as Honduras' plenipotentiary minister to El Salvador from 1946 to 1949. In 1948, he represented Honduras at the International Pan-American Conference in Bogota, Colombia, where the charter of the Organization of American States (OAS) was adopted.
University and Judiciary Posts
In 1949, Cruz was appointed rector of UNAH and concurrently served as a member of the Supreme Court of Honduras.
OAS Mission and Legal Leadership
In 1957, Cruz led Honduras' diplomatic mission at the OAS during a meeting to address Nicaragua's invasion of Honduran territory. From 1961, he served as dean of the Faculty of Law at UNAH.
Bar Association and Presidency
Cruz presided over the Association of Honduran Lawyers from 1967 to 1968. He was elected President of Honduras in 1971, serving until 1972.
Overthrow and Later Life
A military coup led by General López Arellano deposed Cruz in December 1972. After being removed from power, Cruz did not play a significant role in Honduran politics.
