Early Life and EducationJudd Asher Nelson was born on November 28, 1959, in Portland, Maine. His mother, Merle Nelson (Royt), was a mediator and former member of the state's legislative system, while his father, Leonard Nelson, was a corporate lawyer and the first Jewish president of the Portland Symphony Orchestra. Nelson has two sisters, Eva and Julie. He attended school in Concord, New Hampshire, and later pursued higher education at Haverford College in Pennsylvania. However, he dropped out during his second year to pursue his acting career.

Acting Career
After leaving college, Nelson moved to Manhattan, where he studied acting under the guidance of Stella Adler.
