Julanna Johnston was an American actress known for her work in the era of silent films. Born on May 1, 1900, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Julanna moved to Hollywood with her parents and began taking dance lessons. She then spent two seasons performing in the theater.

Early Career and Rise to Stardom

In 1919, Julanna made her film debut in King Vidor's "The Best Years," landing a small role. Her brief moment of stardom came in 1924 when she was selected as one of the WAMPAS Baby Stars, a list that annually recognized promising young actresses. That same year, she played a princess in the film "The Thief of Baghdad," alongside Douglas Fairbanks. However, this role would be her only significant appearance on the big screen, as she struggled to break through as a leading actress.

Scandal and Later Career

In 1924, Julanna's name was involved in a scandal following the death of actor and director Thomas Ince. Ince died under mysterious circumstances during a yacht trip hosted by newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst, where Julanna was among the attendees. Despite the scandal, Julanna continued to work in the film industry, mostly in supporting roles. However, her career came to an end with the advent of sound films.
