Józef Marian Zygmunt Kosiński, a renowned Polish surgeon, embarked on his medical studies in Saint Petersburg, Russia. In 1858, he graduated from the Medical Academy with distinction.

Career in Warsaw

After completing his studies, Kosiński relocated to Warsaw, where he served as a prosector from 1862 onward. His exceptional surgical skills led to his appointment as extraordinary professor of surgery in 1869 and ordinary professor in 1877. He became the director of the Surgical Clinic, solidifying his position as one of the leading surgeons in Poland.

Surgical Travels and Acclaim

Kosiński's passion for surgery took him on extensive travels throughout Germany and France from 1866 to 1868. He honed his surgical prowess, becoming widely recognized for his expertise.

Literary Contributions

Despite his prolific surgical career, Kosiński authored relatively few literary works. His publications appeared in various Polish journals, showcasing his deep knowledge of surgical techniques.

Allegations and Trial

Kosiński faced allegations of leaving surgical instruments in a patient's abdomen, resulting in her death. However, the court acquitted him, dismissing the lawsuit for damages.

Personal Life

Kosiński married Maria Teresa Salomea, daughter of General Aleksander Jan Hauke. They had a close bond before her untimely passing in 1892.

Legacy
