Julie Ertel: American Triathlete and Olympic Competitor
Early Life and EducationJulie Ertel was born on December 27, 1972, in Anaheim, California. She grew up in a nearby town with her parents, John and Julie Swale, and her sister, Jana. From a young age, Ertel excelled in athletics, particularly in swimming and water polo. She pursued her education at the University of California, Irvine, where she earned a bachelor's degree in economics and a minor in Black American Music. Later, she continued her studies at Pacific University California, obtaining a master's degree in sports and exercise science.
Triathlon Career
Ertel's triathlon career began in high school. Her exceptional swimming skills and natural athleticism propelled her to victories in collegiate competitions. She established herself as one of the leading triathletes in the United States, earning the title of Elite Triathlete in 2007 and capturing the gold medal at the Pan Am Games that same year. In 2003, she made a strong showing at the Pan Am Games.
Olympic Experience
Ertel represented the United States at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, competing in the triathlon. Prior to that, she competed in the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, where she won a silver medal in water polo. Ertel brings a wealth of competitive experience to the Olympic stage.
Post-Olympic Career
Currently, Julie Ertel serves as a physical education teacher at Orange College. She continues to maintain her athleticism through cycling, tennis, and swimming whenever she finds spare time between her teaching responsibilities.
Personal Life
In her free time, Ertel enjoys spending time by the ocean, whether it's taking leisurely walks along the shore or indulging in refreshing swims. She also finds solace in playing tennis and has participated in amateur competitions, demonstrating her competitive spirit both on and off the field.
