Saint Justin, Bishop of Chieti

Saint Justin is a Catholic bishop venerated as one of the bishops of Chieti, Italy. Various dates are given for his life.

Historicity of Saint Justin's Life

Some scholars believe that historical evidence of Saint Justin's life did not exist until the 15th century. Elements of his hagiography resemble that of Saint Justus, Bishop of Siponto, who, along with his brothers Florentius and Felix, was martyred in Furci, Abruzzo. Justin's niece, Justa, was also martyred.

Cathedra of Saint Justin

Despite the uncertainty of his life, the cathedral of Chieti, consecrated in honor of Saint Justin, was built in the 9th century. The saint's relics, including his hand, are enshrined in the cathedral.

Commemoration

Saint Justin is mentioned in the Roman Martyrology on January 1. His feast is celebrated in Chieti on January 14 and May 11.
