Early Life and Education
Osmonbek Artykbaev was born into a farmer's family. He graduated from the Kyrgyz State University (KSU) in 1956 with a degree in Philology.
Professional Career
Artykbaev began his career as a department head at the newspaper Leninchil Zhash. From 1959 to 1964, he led the Criticism and Literary Studies department of the magazine Ala-Too. In 1964, he became the editor of original fiction at the Kyrgyz Publishing House.
Academic and Research
Artykbaev obtained his Ph.D. in 1966 and Doctor of Philosophy in Philology in 1985. He held various positions at KSU, including Senior Lecturer, Associate Professor, Dean of Philology, and Head of Kyrgyz Literature Department.
Literary Contributions
As a prominent scholar, Artykbaev published nine poetry collections, 16 monographs, and numerous articles. He was a prolific writer, with over 600 articles to his credit.
Literary Research
Artykbaev's research focused on the history of Kyrgyz literature from ancient times to the present. He contributed significantly to the systematization and popularization of Kyrgyz literature through his works such as "Izdenmelder zhana tabyldar" and "Ar tarduu izder."
Textbooks and Pedagogy
Artykbaev authored numerous textbooks for high schools and universities, including "Bizdin adabiat" and "Kyrgyz adabiaty." He also created textbooks for university students, such as "XX kyylymdaky Kyrgyz adabiatynyn tarykhy."
Mentorship and Recognition
Under Artykbaev's guidance, approximately 15 candidates of science were trained. Many of his students went on to successful careers in media, publishing, education, and academia.
Honors and Awards
Artykbaev received numerous awards, including the Order of the Badge of Honor, Medal for Labor Veteran, and the Toktogul State Prize in Science and Technology. He was also named People's Writer of the Kyrgyz Republic, Merited Cultural Figure of the Kyrgyz Republic, Honorary Academician of the International Public Academy of Chingiz Aitmatov, and Laureate of the Jusup Balasagyn Prize.
