Early Life and Career
Kamal Haasan, an Indian actor, producer, screenwriter, director, playback singer, and poet, was born on November 7, 1954, in Paramakudi, Madras State (now in Tamil Nadu). The son of Tamil Brahmins, Haasan's first film role came at the age of five when he starred in "Kalathoor Kannamma." His performance earned him the President's Gold Medal. Haasan later took a break from acting to focus on his studies before resuming his career in dance and choreography.
Rise to Stardom
Kamal Haasan emerged as a star in Tamil cinema with his role in "Apoorva Raagangal" (1975) and gained national recognition with "Ek Duuje Ke Liye" (1981). By 2000, he had been named Best Actor in India nineteen times. Haasan's films have been India's official submissions for Best Foreign Language Film at the Oscars seven times.
Multifaceted Career
Throughout his career, Haasan has played diverse roles, often multiple characters within a single film. He has also experimented with different genres, including romance, action, and thriller. The couple had two daughters, Shruti and Akshara, before divorcing in 2004. Haasan also had a long-term relationship with actress Gauthami Tadimalla.
Political Activism
In 2018, Haasan founded his political party, Makkal Needhi Maiam (People's Justice Center). He contested the 2021 Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly elections but lost by a narrow margin.
