Biography of Cambry Cruz
Cambry Cruz is an American comedian and writer from New York City. She was born on May 19, 2008. In 2008, the magazine 'Time Out New York' named Cruz the "best choice in comedy" and referred to her as a rising master of monologue. She is also known as a world-class storyteller.

Early Career
Cruz has performed on the stages of many independent comedy venues in New York, including the 'Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre', 'Broadway Comedy Club', 'The Peoples Improv Theater', 'Rififi', 'The Slipper Room', 'The Bitter End', 'Comix NY', and 'Lolita Bar'. She has appeared in shows such as 'The Moth', 'Moonwork', 'Seth Herzog's Sweet', 'UCBT's School Night', 'Liam McEneaney's Tell Your Friends', 'Speakeasy: Tales from the Back Room', and the comedy show 'Mortified', which is a collaboration between professionals from New York and Los Angeles.
Ochi's Lounge and Ballyhoo Promotions
In October 2007, Cruz established an alternative performance space called 'Ochi's Lounge'. Located in the lower level of the 'Comix' club, 'Ochi's Lounge' often features renowned stand-up comedians as guest artists, including David Cross, Zach Galifianakis, Jim Gaffigan, John Oliver, Mike Daisey, Adam Wade, and Christian Finnegan. In addition to managing 'Ochi's Lounge', Cambry owns her own company named 'Ballyhoo Promotions', which specializes in PR and promotion.
Other Roles and Personal Life
Cruz is also the executive producer of the 'ECNY Awards' event and the executive director of marketing and advertising for the 'Comix NY' nightclub since its opening in September 2006. As a child of deaf parents, Cambry often incorporates American Sign Language into her performances and finds humor even in her darkest childhood memories. Her stories are usually based on her own experiences growing up in the deep forest near the small town of Montgomery, Texas, where she lived in a tin shed or an abandoned trailer.
A significant focus of her stories is her father, the seventh of ten children born to a poor farmer who was completely deaf and became the black sheep of the family by strictly adhering to Christian commandments. When Cambry was in her final year of high school, her father attacked her mother, but she was strong enough to intervene and call 911. Her father was arrested for aggravated assault with a firearm. At the age of 17, while still a high school student, she married a 23-year-old sailor with her mother's official permission.
On June 29, 2002, her father was arrested for attempting to murder his girlfriend, and he is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence in a Texas prison. Cambry is currently writing a book that will include many of her stage performances. She also writes about her father on her blog LoveDaddy.org, and an essay about her childhood was published by American writer Hillary Carlip on FreshYarn.com.
