Early Life and Musical Beginnings
Kapakha Kuly sheva was born in the village of Dongilagash, Akmola Oblast, into a family of 12 children. Her father, Kuly shev Kabyken, was a war veteran, and her mother, Kuly sheva Kazima, was a Mother Heroine.
Musical Education and Career
Kuly sheva began taking dombra lessons from Musa Asainov, the grandson of renowned musician Ybyray. Her repertoire included Ybyray's songs such as "Sulu Kokshe" and "Kaldyrgan." In 1966, she joined the Kokchetav Regional Philharmonic Society as a soloist. The following year, she entered the Republican Variety and Circus Studio under the tutelage of People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR Garifulla Kurmangaliyev.
From 1969 to 2009, Kuly sheva performed with the Republican Youth Variety Ensemble "Gulder" and released a solo album on the label "Melodiya." Her husband, Erkin Sletdinov, was a musician in the same ensemble.
Pedagogical Career
After graduating from the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov in 2004, Kuly sheva taught at the Republican Variety and Circus College named after Zh. Elebekov. Since 2013, she has taught folk singing at the Kazakh National University of Arts. In 2019, she became a professor at KazNU.
Performances and Recognition
Kuly sheva has performed extensively around the world. In 2019, she celebrated her 70th birthday and 50th anniversary on stage with a special concert. Her recordings include "Poets Kapakha Kuly sheva: In Her Own Accompaniment on the Dombra" (1982).
