Biography of Karen Kane
Karen Kane is an American fashion designer who began her career in the fashion industry at the age of 19 when she graduated from the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. She started as a pattern maker in a young sportswear company, where she met her future husband and business partner, Lonnie.

Born in Barberton, Ohio, Karen Kane moved to Santa Barbara, California at the age of nine. She developed a passion for sewing and attended numerous fashion classes, immersing herself in the world of fashion. Today, Karen Kane resides in Los Angeles with her husband Lonnie and manages her clothing company, 'Karen Kane', based in Vernon, California.
In 1979, Karen and Lonnie got married and launched the women's clothing collection 'Karen Kane' in their garage in Studio City. Initially, the brand was sold only in small specialty stores, but as the line expanded, 'Karen Kane' clothing became available in major retail chains such as Macy's, Bloomingdales, Nordstrom, Lord & Taylor, Dillard's, and Bon Ton. These large and established retailers continue to collaborate with the company, along with major online stores including Amazon and Zappos.
Known for its simplicity, comfortable fabrics, and coastal inspiration, 'Karen Kane' clothing is most famous for its California Coast aesthetic. Since 2011, 80% of the clothing line is produced in the USA, while the remaining 20% is imported from other countries.
In 2006, a division of the main company called 'Karen by Karen Kane' was launched with the aim of complementing the main brand with everyday wear. 'Karen by Karen Kane' also produces plus-size clothing for the main collection under the name 'Karen Kane Women's'. Starting from the spring of 2012, the 'Karen Kane' line includes women's handbags and sunglasses, as well as ready-to-wear clothing.
Aside from her own company, Karen Kane also designs clothing for two other contemporary labels. In 2008, she introduced 'Fifteen-Twenty', a collection of tops and dresses primarily made from silk fabrics. The 'Fifteen-Twenty' brand gained popularity among celebrities such as Eva Longoria, Jessica Biel, Carrie Underwood, January Jones, Ashley Greene, and Hilary Duff. The collection is sold in specialty stores and department stores including Neiman Marcus, Lord & Taylor, Bloomingdales, and Neiman Marcus CUSP.
In 2011, Karen Kane launched the 'Red 23' clothing line as an addition to 'Fifteen-Twenty'. The line includes t-shirts, tops, sweaters, jackets, and scarves in neutral tones. 'Karen Kane' is a family-owned company, with Karen's husband serving as the president and the chairman of the California Fashion Association. Their eldest son, Michael, handles the company's sales organization and incentives, while their younger son, Robert, has worked as a designer for the t-shirt line included in the summer collection of 'Karen by Karen Kane' in 2010.
Karen Kane received her first fashion and style award from the state of California in high school. She later received the 'Peacock Award' from FIDM and was twice honored with the 'Dallas Fashion Awards'. She was also nominated for the 'Fashion Industry Guild' award. In 2000, her husband received the 'CEO of the Year' award from 'Apparel Magazine'.
