Early Life and Education
Carey Salin (née Wührer) was born on April 28, 1967, in Brookfield, Connecticut. Growing up in a family where her father was a police officer and later a car salesman, she was one of four children. In her teenage years, Carey developed a passion for singing and began performing at nightclubs, often sneaking out of her house to do so.
At the age of 13, she began studying theater, first at her high school and later at the New York University Tisch School of the Arts, Marymount Manhattan College, Columbia University, and the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, where she studied under the renowned Uta Hagen.
Television and Film Career
Carey Wührer's first notable television role was in MTV's "Remote Control" in 1987. She went on to star in films such as "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" (1990) and the lead role in "Beastmaster 2: Through the Portal of Time" (1991). She later appeared in over a dozen direct-to-video films, including "Sex and the Other Man" (1996) and "Webs" (2001), with "Vivid" (1997) being a Canadian film and "Swamp Thing" (1991-1993) being a television series.
In 1997, Wührer broke into the mainstream with her role as a series regular in "Sliders," which she held until the show's end in 2000. Subsequent mainstream roles included "Anaconda," "Berzerk," and "Eight Legged Freaks." She is also known to video game enthusiasts for her role as "Special Agent Tanya" in "Command & Conquer: Red Alert 2" and its expansion pack, "Yuri's Revenge."
Later Projects and Music
In recent years, Carey Wührer has appeared in the television series "Lincoln Heights" and the film "Air I Breathe." Additionally, she released a music album titled "Shiny" in 1999, showcasing her skills on guitar, flute, and vocals.
Personal Life and Recognition
In 1994, Carey Wührer married Daniel Salin, but their marriage ended in 1999. In 2003, she remarried producer James Scura, with whom she had three children: son Enzo and daughters Evangelina and Echo Luna.
Wührer has been recognized for her beauty, being ranked 76th in FHM's "100 Sexiest Women" in 2000, 73rd a year later, and 36th out of 50 in Maxim's "Hot 100" in 1999.
