Carl David Ilgen
Carl David Ilgen was a German theologian and philologist.Early Life and Education
Born in 1763 in Leipzig, Ilgen studied at the University of Leipzig. In 1789, he became the rector of the city school in Naumburg.
Academic Career
In 1794, Ilgen was appointed professor of Oriental languages at the University of Jena. From 1802 to 1831, he served as rector of the school in Pforta.
Philological Works
Ilgen published several philological works, including:- "Hymni Homerici" (1791)
- "Scholia sive carmina convivalia Graecorum" (1798)
- "Opuscula philologica" (1797)
Theological Writings
Ilgen's theological writings were known for their liberal approach to scholarship. Notable works include:
- "Natura atque virtutes Jobi" (1798)

Ilgen spent the last three years of his life in Berlin, where he passed away in 1834.
