Life and Work
Karl August Wunderlich was a renowned German physician and medical researcher. In 1832, he embarked on a journey to study the cholera epidemic, traveling to Paris, Switzerland, and Belgium. In Belgium, he was commissioned by the government to establish a hospital for cholera patients.
Academic Career
In 1843, Wunderlich was appointed as a professor and director of the clinic in Erlangen. His scientific contributions extended beyond his work on cholera, including monographs on Bright's disease and geriatric illnesses.
Signature Publication
Wunderlich's most significant publication was "Special Pathology and Therapy from a Clinical Perspective." This four-volume work, published between 1841 and 1842, provided a comprehensive overview of medical knowledge at the time.
