Early Life and Education

Johann Ludwig Georg Jordens studied theology and philology at the University of Halle.

Teaching Career

After completing his studies, Jordens became a teacher. In 1796, he was appointed director of the high school in the Silesian town of Lauban.

Literary Scholarship

Jordens' magnum opus was the "Lexicon deutscher Dichter und Prosaisten" (Dictionary of German Poets and Prose Writers). Published between 1806 and 1811, this multi-volume work provided valuable bibliographical information.

Anecdotes and Biographies

In addition to the dictionary, Jordens compiled and published the two-volume "Denkwürdigkeiten, Charakterzüge und Anekdoten aus dem Leben der vorzüglichsten deutschen Dichter" (Memorable Events, Character Traits, and Anecdotes from the Lives of Distinguished German Writers) in 1812. This work contained a collection of anecdotes and biographical sketches of renowned German literary figures.
