Reign and Abdication
Upon the abdication of his father in 1848, Karl Anton ascended to the throne of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. However, a year later, he was forced to cede his principality to his distant cousin, King Frederick William IV of Prussia, who annexed it into the Prussian kingdom.
Military and Diplomatic Service
Karl Anton had a distinguished military career, rising to the rank of General of the Infantry. He served in the Crimean War as Prussia's envoy to Paris, where he played a crucial role in preventing the formation of an Anglo-French alliance against Russia.

After his political departure, Karl Anton focused on his role as head of the Catholic branch of the Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen family. In 1866, his son Karl became Prince of Wallachia and Moldavia, and in 1881, he became the first King of Romania. In 1870, his eldest son, Leopold, was offered the crown of Spain, an event that sparked the Franco-Prussian War.
Inheriting Hohenzollern-Hechingen
