From a tender age, Reuter's passion for music ignited within him. However, he initially pursued a career in graphic design.
A Profound Transformation
A life-altering motorcycle accident plunged Reuter into a prolonged coma. Upon awakening, he underwent a profound existential reevaluation.
Embrace of Spirituality in India
In 1979, Reuter traveled to Osho's ashram in Pune, India. There, he received initiation and adopted the spiritual name Karunesh, meaning "compassion" in Sanskrit. His encounters with Deuter, Govi, and Anugama inspired him to pursue music professionally.
Development in Hamburg Commune
After returning to Germany, Karunesh spent five years living in the Rajneesh commune in Hamburg. During this time, he immersed himself in music, collaborating with fellow musicians and crafting ethereal, meditative melodies.
Eastern Influences and Signature Sound
Karunesh's music bears a strong Oriental influence, particularly from Indian folk music. Blending the soaring sounds of modern synthesizers with the gentle chime of bells, the haunting melodies of flutes intertwine with the songs of birds and the murmurs of flowing water. Traditional Indian instruments, such as the sitar, also feature prominently in his compositions.
Sounds of the Heart and Beyond
In 1984, Karunesh released his debut album, "Sounds of the Heart," which garnered widespread acclaim. He would subsequently release a series of albums that became classics of the new age genre. His enchanting melodies have become a staple for esoteric groups, particularly Osho followers, during meditation and workshops.
Late Life on Maui
Since 1992, Karunesh has resided on the island of Maui in Hawaii, continuing to inspire listeners with his meditative musical creations.
