Early Life and Education

Born on May 30, 1956, in Thessaloniki, Sakellaropoulou grew up in Stavroupoli, Xanthi. She studied law at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens and pursued postgraduate studies in constitutional and administrative law at the Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris.

Career in Law

In 1982, Sakellaropoulou was admitted to the Council of State, Greece's highest administrative court. She held various positions within the association, including as General Secretary (1985-1986), Vice President (2006-2008), and President (1993-1995, 2000-2001). In 2000, she became a Councilor. In October 2015, she was appointed Vice President of the Council of State, and in October 2018, she was unanimously elected as President of the Council.

Sakellaropoulou's sensitivity towards civil liberties, environmental issues, and the rights of minorities and refugees led the then leftist SYRIZA administration to nominate her for the presidency.

During her presidency, she has approved the Prespa Agreement, which resolved the long-standing dispute with North Macedonia over the latter's name. She also presided over the Council of State's case involving Alexander Vinnik, the alleged creator of the bitcoin exchange BTC-E.
