Career
Early YearsKaitlyn Hawayek was born on October 12, 1997, in Riverside, California, to parents Laurie Thompson and David Hawayek. She began skating at the age of two and initially competed as a single skater. In 2017, she decided to switch to ice dancing and partnered with Jean-Luc Baker.
Partnership with Jean-Luc Baker
Hawayek and Baker made their ice dancing debut in the 2017-18 season. They competed at the U.S. Championships, where they placed fifth. They also represented the United States at the Four Continents Championships and finished 10th.
Breakthrough Season
In the 2018-19 season, Hawayek and Baker made significant progress. They won the silver medal at Skate America, their first Grand Prix medal. They also placed third at the U.S. Championships. At the Four Continents Championships, they won the bronze medal, the first international medal for an American ice dance team since 2011.
Rise to the Top
The 2019-20 season was Hawayek and Baker's breakout year. They won the bronze medal at the Grand Prix Final, becoming the first American ice dance team to win a medal at the event since 1999. They also won their first U.S. national title. At the 2020 World Championships, they placed fourth, matching the best result for an American ice dance team since 2009.
Olympic Medals
Hawayek and Baker represented the United States at the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing. They won the silver medal in the team event and placed ninth in the ice dance competition.
Recent Years
In the 2022-23 season, Hawayek and Baker won their second U.S. national title. They also competed at the ISU World Figure Skating Championships, where they placed fifth.
