Early Life and Career

Margaret Kathleen O'Regan was born in New York City on September 14, 1915, to Irish immigrant parents. Despite her early interest in acting, it was not until she was in her 50s that she achieved significant success.

Broadway Breakthrough

In 1960, Medford made her Broadway debut in the original production of "Bye Bye Birdie." Her performance as Mrs. Peterson garnered critical acclaim, earning her a Tony Award nomination. She went on to appear in other Broadway musicals, including "Carousel" and "Funny Girl," in which she played the role of Fanny Brice's mother.

Oscar-Nominated Performance

Medford's portrayal of Fanny Brice's mother in the 1968 film adaptation of "Funny Girl" earned her an Academy Award nomination. She also received a Tony nomination for the same role on Broadway.
