Louis Kevin Celestin, known professionally as Kaytranada, was born in Port-au-Prince, Haiti, on August 25, 1992. Raised in a musical family, he began exploring his passion for music from a young age. Influenced by his father's singing with the band Moustique and his mother's singing in a church choir, Kaytranada was drawn to the transformative power of sound. Despite his initial shyness and academic struggles, he found solace in the basement of his family home, where he spent countless hours experimenting with FL Studio.

Musical Breakthrough

In 2012, Kaytranada's remix of Janet Jackson's "If" took the internet by storm. The release propelled him into the spotlight, garnering widespread acclaim for his unique blend of experimental dance music. Over the next few years, he solidified his status as a rising star, performing at renowned festivals like Halifax Pop Explosion and Boiler Room Montreal DJ Set.

Collaborations and Debut Album

Despite signing with XL Recordings, Kaytranada's debut album remained elusive as he prioritized touring and collaborating with diverse artists. In 2015, he embarked on a tour with Madonna, but the experience left him yearning for recognition beyond being a guest performer. Inspired by his roots, he returned home and immersed himself in the creation of his debut album, "99.9%." The album showcased his eclectic style, fusing hip-hop, R&B, and electronic elements. Its release garnered critical acclaim and spawned the popular single "You're the One" featuring Syd.

"Bubba" and Critical Success

In 2019, Kaytranada released his sophomore album, "Bubba." The album debuted at number one on the US Dance charts and received widespread praise for its innovative and infectious grooves. Tracks like "10%," "Vex Oh," "Midsection," and "Oh No" became instant fan favorites, cementing his position as a leading force in dance music.

Personal Life

In 2016, Kaytranada publicly identified as gay in an interview with The Fader. While coming out was initially challenging within his Haitian family, he was met with love and support, particularly from his father. Kaytranada's openness about his sexuality has been a source of inspiration for many, encouraging dialogue and acceptance.

Grammy Awards and Legacy
