Early Life and Extremism
Kazbek Tashuev emerged as a prominent figure within the religiously extremist and terrorist underworld of Kabardino-Balkaria. Operating under the alias Amir Abdul-Jabbar, he ascended the ranks of the armed underground operating in the republic.
Leadership in the Virtual Imamate of the Caucasus
Within the structure of the virtual Imamate of the Caucasus, Tashuev assumed the position of Commander of the North-Eastern Sector of the United Vilayat of Kabarda, Balkaria, and Karachay. He also led the so-called "Baksan Jamaat."
Alleged Involvement in Terrorist Attacks
Tashuev's involvement in several major terrorist attacks has been extensively investigated. He was suspected of orchestrating the attack on the Baksan Hydroelectric Power Station, the execution of Moscow tourists in the Prielbrusye region in 2011, and the bombing of a cable car in Prielbrusye. Additionally, authorities believed he was connected to the terrorist bombing at a horse racing track in Nalchik in 2010.
Federal Warrant and Charges
Tashuev faced serious criminal charges, including assassination attempts on law enforcement officers, robbery, murder, sabotage, and theft of weapons. A federal warrant was issued for his arrest.
Video Justification for Terrorist Attacks
In a video address, Amir Abdul-Jabbar explained the killing of Moscow tourists as a retaliation against their suspected collaboration with Russian security forces.
SpecOps Operation and Death
On April 29, 2011, a highly successful special operation was conducted in the village of Progress, Stavropol Krai. Joint forces from the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) and the Main Directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for the North Caucasus Federal District neutralized key leaders of the terrorist underground in Kabardino-Balkaria. Among those killed was Kazbek Tashuev. The National Anti-Terrorism Committee confirmed his demise.
Confirmation of Death
The armed underground's website mourned the loss of Amir Abdul-Jabbar, confirming his death.
