Early Life and Education
Kazimierz Grelewski was born in 1907 in the village of Biała, Poland. Inspired by his deep faith, he entered the Spiritual Seminary in Sandomierz in 1923.
Priestly Ordination and Service
On August 4, 1929, Bishop Paweł Kubicki ordained Kazimierz Grelewski as a priest. For the next 14 years, he served as a prefect at a secondary school in Radom.
Wartime Activities and Persecution
With the outbreak of World War II and the German occupation of Poland, Grelewski engaged in charitable work, provided pastoral care, and secretly taught theological subjects in underground Polish schools. His activities drew the attention of the Gestapo, and he was arrested in January 1941 along with his brother Stefan.
Concentration Camps and Martyrdom
Grelewski was sent to the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp and was assigned the prisoner number 10443. In April 1941, he was transferred to the Dachau concentration camp, where he received the number 25280. On January 9, 1942, Kazimierz Grelewski was executed in Dachau.
Beatification
Pope John Paul II beatified Kazimierz Grelewski on June 13, 1999, alongside other Polish martyrs of World War II. He is now recognized as Blessed Kazimierz Grelewski by the Roman Catholic Church.
