Biography of Kelly Jones

Early Life and Influences

Kelly Jones, the famous Welsh musician, guitarist, and vocalist of the popular rock band 'Stereophonics', was born on June 3, 1974, in Cwmaman, Wales. He was the youngest of three children to Arwyn and Beryl Jones. Kelly's father, who worked at a factory, was his idol since childhood. He trained the school football team and had professional vocal training. This led Kelly to develop a passion for both sports and music, as he excelled in boxing and football during his school years.

Music Career

Kelly's true passion, however, was music. He grew up listening to his father's records, which taught him proper breathing techniques and guitar playing. In school, he befriended Stuart Cable and Richard Jones, and together they started playing cover songs and performing around the area. After finishing school, Kelly attended college to study cinematography, hoping to become a screenwriter in the future. However, he eventually returned to the world of music, using his newfound knowledge to write song lyrics. Together with his school bandmates, they formed the band 'Stereophonics'.

In 1996, the band signed a contract with the label V2, and soon after, they released their debut single, 'Looks Like Chaplin'. Their second single, 'Local Boy in the Photograph', reached the 51st position in the UK Top 50 chart. Their debut album, 'Word Gets Around', was released in August 1997 and reached the 6th position on the UK Album chart. The success of the album propelled the band to stardom and made them one of the most popular rock bands in Britain. In 1998, 'Stereophonics' won the Brit Award for Best New Group.

Solo Project and Personal Life

Alongside his work with 'Stereophonics', Kelly Jones embarked on a solo project. While working on the band's sixth album, he started playing his own songs, and the other band members were so impressed that they suggested recording some of them. Each song was named after a woman who had somehow changed Kelly's life. The recordings were done acoustically without breaks or further production. The result was his solo album, 'Only the Names Have Been Changed', which was recorded in just 10 days.

Despite the success of his solo album and offers to continue his solo career, Kelly declined, stating that his work with the band was more important to him. In his personal life, Kelly dated Emma Dunn for more than 12 years, but they broke up shortly after getting married. Just four weeks after the breakup, Kelly discovered that the band's photographer had started dating his ex-girlfriend. In a fit of anger, he vandalized the photographer's property. However, no legal action was taken, and Kelly later apologized and paid for the damages.

Over the years, Kelly has been seen with different women in public, but he generally keeps his personal life private.
