Biography of Marky Ramone
Marky Ramone, born as Mark Steven Bell on July 15, 1952, in Brooklyn, New York, USA, is an American drummer best known for his work with the rock band "Ramones". He has also played drums for other well-known bands such as "The Voidoids" and "The Misfits".
Early Career
Marky started playing drums in the hard rock band "Dust". He recorded two albums with the band before his rise to the punk scene. In the mid-1970s, he joined the band "Richard Hell & The Voidoids". His drumming can be heard on the band's debut album titled "Blank Generation".
Rise to Fame with Ramones
When Tommy Ramone decided to leave "Ramones" in 1987, Marky asked Tommy to replace him, after which he changed his name to Marky Ramone. Marky played drums with "Ramones" for a total of 15 years. He left the band in 1983 due to personal struggles with alcoholism, but returned in 1987 and played with the band until their disbandment in 1996.
Post-Ramones Career
After the breakup of "Ramones", Marky played with "Rancid". He then formed the band "Marky Ramone And The Intruders" with guitarist and vocalist Skin Bones, who had previously written several songs for "Ramones". Their first album maintained the fast and cheerful mood of classic "Ramones" works. The band went on numerous tours, including one in Russia.
Later Years
In 1996, Marky formed a nostalgic project called "The Ramainz" with D.D. Ramone and his wife Barbara Ramone, where they played "Ramones" songs for their own enjoyment. In 2000, Marky collaborated with Joey Ramone, the lead vocalist of "Ramones", to record Joey's solo album titled "Don't Worry About Me". He also toured with "The Misfits" in 2000. Marky continues to tour with his band "Marky Ramone and Friends" and hosts a radio show called "Marky Ramone Punk Rock Blitzkrieg".
Recognition and Other Ventures
Marky received recognition for his contributions to music. In 2002, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of "Ramones". He has also produced albums and DVDs, including the DVD "Ramones: Raw" and the CD "Teenage Head with Marky Ramone". Marky has been involved in various film projects and appeared in documentaries and biopics related to punk rock.
