Kelly Marie Monaco, born on May 23, 1976, is an American model, actress, reality show participant, and the winner of the first season of "Dancing with the Stars." She gained fame for her role as Sam McCall in the television series "General Hospital," which she has been playing since 2003. In April 2007, Monaco became Playboy magazine's "Playmate of the Month." She also appeared in numerous publications of the "Playboy Special Edition."

Early Career and Acting Roles

Monaco's first television role was in the nighttime drama "Baywatch" from 1997 to 1998. In addition to portraying the character Susan, she also served as a body double for Carmen Electra, as Electra couldn't swim. Monaco had small roles in television films like "BASEketball," "Idle Hands," and "Mumford" during the late 1990s. She played two roles in the mystical soap opera "Port Charles" - Olivia "Livvie" Locke Morley and Tess Ramsey. After the show ended, she joined "General Hospital" as Samantha McCall. Monaco received a Daytime Emmy nomination in 2003 for her role in "Port Charles" as an Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Drama Series. She was nominated again in 2006 for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series for her role as Samantha McCall. Dancing with the Stars and Peepshow

Monaco gained significant recognition for her participation in the reality show "Dancing with the Stars," where she was one of the most popular contestants in the first season. She won the competition, despite facing criticism from judge Bruno Tonioli and experiencing a wardrobe malfunction during a Latin dance routine. In February 2009, Monaco had the opportunity to participate in Jerry Mitchell's "Peepshow" project, a burlesque-style dance show in Las Vegas. She played the role of Bo Peep, a precocious girl discovering her inner sexuality, alongside pop star Mel B, her fellow "Dancing with the Stars" contestant. Monaco and Mel B left the show in late June 2009.

Personal Life and Interests

Monaco maintains good relationships with many of her colleagues, including her close friendship with Kimberly McCullough from "General Hospital." They even attend traditional Indian Bangra dance classes together. In her free time, Monaco enjoys extreme sports and participates in women's races called "Hi-Tec Racing," which involve a twelve-mile off-road race, a three to four-mile kayak descent, and a twelve to fifteen-mile mountain bike ride, all combined with challenging obstacle courses.
