Kelsey Serwa: Canadian Freestyle Skier

Kelsey Serwa is a Canadian freestyle skier and member of the Canadian national team. She has had an impressive skiing career, with 16 years of experience by 2007. While ski cross was a new discipline for Serwa, she quickly mastered it and has since become a two-time international champion and an Olympic silver medalist.

Achievements

Serwa has won several titles, including championships in FIS and Winter X Games. In 2009, she emerged victorious at the national championship in Calgary, surpassing the reigning world champion, Ashleigh McIvor. Serwa's first World Cup win came on January 13, 2009, in Alpe d'Huez. She later secured her first complete World Cup victory on January 24, 2010, in Lake Placid. Just two weeks before the Olympics, Serwa won a bronze medal at the 2010 Winter X Games, finishing behind her compatriot Ashleigh McIvor and French skier Ophélie David.

Olympic Experience

In 2010, Serwa competed in the Winter Olympics, which took place in her hometown of Vancouver, British Columbia. Although she did not make it to the medal round, Serwa finished fifth overall. She had better luck at the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, where she won the silver medal in women's ski cross. Canadian skier Marielle Thompson took gold, while Anna Holmlund from Sweden won the bronze.

Continued Success

Serwa's career continued to thrive after the Olympics. She won the X Games through an impressive jump of about 50 meters, despite sustaining a significant injury upon landing. Her success at the X Games set the tone for the rest of the season. In the 2011 World Championships, Serwa achieved remarkable results, ranking fourth in the fastest skiers' category. She went on to win the final, surpassing her compatriot Julia Murray and Swedish skier Anna Holmlund. By the end of the season, Serwa had secured two major victories in international skiing competitions.

Outside Interests

When Serwa is not on the slopes, she enjoys playing croquet and knitting. In addition to ski cross, she is also passionate about hockey and actively supports the Vancouver Canucks. Serwa is currently studying to become a psychotherapist. She also devotes a significant amount of time to charitable work, collaborating with the Dream Legacy Foundation, founded by former athlete Kristi Richards, which supports indigenous athletes in the Okanagan region.
