Kenneth Wentworth: A Renowned Pianist and Educator
Early Life and EducationKenneth Wentworth, a prominent American pianist, graduated from the prestigious Juilliard School under the tutelage of renowned pianist Irwin Freundlich. During his studies, he married fellow student Jean Wentworth.
Career in India
From 1960 to 1965, Wentworth worked in India as the Head of the Calcutta School of Music. This experience ignited a passion for piano duets, leading him and his wife to specialize in this unique repertoire.
Piano Duo with Jean Wentworth
Together, Kenneth and Jean Wentworth established themselves as leading interpreters of four-hand piano works. They recorded all of Mozart's pieces for this ensemble, as well as works by other composers from the 18th and 19th centuries and contemporary American composers such as Vincent Persichetti and Meyer Kupferman.
Teaching and Production
In addition to his musical career, Wentworth devoted many years to teaching piano at Sarah Lawrence College in the Bronx. In 1978, he founded and became the president of the production company Jonathan Wentworth Associates Ltd. The company represented renowned musicians, including pianists Yakov Kasman and Anton Kuerti, cellist and conductor Julius Turkovsky, violinist Dmitri Berlinsky, and conductor Vladimir Verbitsky.
