Early Life and Musical Education

Born in Switzerland, this Swiss conductor and pianist embarked on a musical journey that would shape his career. He honed his skills at the Parma Conservatory under the tutelage of Attilio Brugnoli before continuing his studies at the Hochschule Conservatory. There, he received guidance from esteemed professors Ernst Engesser (piano), Bernhard Sekles (composition), and Fritz Bassmermann (conducting). To further refine his craft, he pursued lessons in Paris with the renowned Robert Casadesus.

In the early stages of his career, he showcased his talent as a pianist for the Bernese Radio from 1928 to 1932. In 1933, he assumed the inaugural role of conductor for the Orchestra of the Radio Lugano. He remained associated with the orchestra for an impressive three decades, assuming the secondary conductor position after passing the baton to Otmar Nussio in 1938.
